UNICARagil is developing the autonomous vehicle of the future.
Rethinking automated driving and vehicle architecture from the ground up—with this goal in mind, leading German universities in the field of automated driving joined forces with selected industry specialists in 2018. Now, the first prototype of the modular and scalable vehicle concept has been unveiled, designed to revolutionize the mobility of the future. The concept of the fully driverless electric vehicle relies on a separation of the utility and drive units. This allows it to be adapted with particular flexibility to a wide range of applications in logistics and passenger transport.
Sensodrive is taking on the “pioneering” role.
Together with the project consortium, the high-tech company Sensodrive developed an innovative steering unit that will introduce entirely new forms of movement to road traffic. Turning on a dime, or parking perpendicular to the direction of travel in the tightest of spaces—the “steering angle actuators” mounted on all four wheels, developed based on our SensoJoint drive units, make it possible to steer each individual wheel independently of the other three - up to a steering angle of 90 degrees!
Cutting-edge technology from industrial robotics.
Turning on a dime or maneuvering into the tightest parking spaces at right angles to the direction of travel—Sensodrive steering angle actuators make this possible with state-of-the-art, sensitive drive technology. The integrated torque sensor allows for the precise measurement and evaluation of torque during vehicle steering, and enables the applied torque to be readjusted if necessary. The SensoJoint drive units deliver an unprecedented maximum torque of approximately 1,300 Nm and are also suitable for large vehicles, while the integrated BISS interface for data transmission also saves a noticeable amount of space and weight.
The best of automotive engineering and robotics.
Thanks to the company’s extensive expertise in the fields of robotics and automotive engineering, Sensodrive was able to develop these innovative steering actuators in a very short time based on the existing SensoJoint complete drive units—thus significantly advancing the vision of the autonomous vehicle concept.
