Sensodrive Supports TU Munich and University of Regensburg with Simulator Technology
Amaxophobia – Millions of Germans Suffer from Driving Anxiety
Driving anxiety, also known as amaxophobia, is among the most common phobias in Germany. It is estimated that several million Germans are affected, with some experiencing anxiety at even the thought of an upcoming trip.
TU Munich and University of Regensburg Use Driving Simulators to Treat Anxiety Disorders
The Chair of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the University of Regensburg researches phobias and develops therapeutic approaches using virtual reality and interactive simulators. For a research project on amaxophobia, the Regensburg researchers, in collaboration with the Technical University of Munich (TUM), developed a driving simulator. Here, participants can safely experience realistic driving situations (exposure therapy). This method has proven to be highly effective and particularly appealing to patients.
Absolutely Realistic Driving Experience with Sensodrive Simulator Technology
As one of the world’s leading companies in simulator technology, Sensodrive regularly supports universities and research projects. In this case, we were proud to contribute as a research partner, providing high-quality simulator products for the project. A SensoWheel SD-LC Force Feedback steering wheel and three SensoPedal simulator pedals now provide highly precise haptic feedback, allowing participants to feel as if they were driving a real car.
SensoWheel SD-LC – The Leading Simulator Steering Wheel on the Market
For valid results, it is crucial that the driving simulator delivers a fully realistic driving experience. With the SensoWheel SD-LC, Sensodrive provided the market-leading force feedback steering wheel. Its high-resolution encoder, excellent control technology, and state-of-the-art motor ensure extremely realistic force feedback and completely smooth driving – perfect for a simulator application requiring maximum precision and realism.
SensoPedals – Simulator Pedals That Set the Standard
Sensodrive also delivered an optimal solution for the simulator pedals. The supplied SensoPedals are highly robust and can be individually adapted to the required force and travel parameters. Equipped with a load cell on the brake pedal, they allow precise force measurement independent of pedal movement and provide extraordinarily realistic haptic feedback.
